Guardian Cookware began in 1922 when George Quinn’s car broke down on a road trip to Washington, D.C. Quinn stayed at his uncle’s house and noticed that his uncle had a frying pan with holes in it. His uncle claimed he paid $3 for it and would never buy another one like it again because of how well it worked.
After returning home from his trip, Quinn found a company called Griswold Manufacturing Company which made cast iron pans just like his uncle’s. He bought 100 pans from them and took them back to his father-in-law who owned a hardware store in downtown Chicago. The pans sold so quickly that within six months they were out of stock and needed more from Griswold Manufacturing Company. To get more pans, Quinn hired two men named Henry Strong and Robert Hauser as salesmen who helped him sell over 5 million dollars worth of pans by 1927! That same year they officially changed their name to Griswold Manufacturing Company which is what they are known as today!
By 1928, Griswold started selling aluminum pans and became even more successful than before. They also started manufacturing cookie sheets, muffin tins, cake tins, roasters, and Dutch ovens all of which are still being sold today! By 1930 they were producing about 40% of all cookware manufactured in America. Unfortunately due to World War II production slowed but didn’t stop completely until 1950 when production resumed once again under new ownership by the Campbell Soup Company. During these years most people still preferred cast iron over aluminum because aluminum tended to warp or dent easily while cooking or baking causing food to stick but eventually aluminum won out due to its lighter weight making it easier for consumers to handle while cooking or baking.

Another ad from 1910 offers Cast Iron Cooking Ware for sale by Wm L Hailey & Co., a hardware store located in Texarkana, Texas. This may be evidence that Guardian cookware dates back to at least 1906 but we have yet to find any information about when Guardian cookware was first produced.
